Dating and Money

With economic situation as it is, there are more people worrying about money than ever before. However, it also seems that couples are acting differently in their monetary affairs as well.

In the 1970′s it was common for couples to have joint bank accounts, but these days only a third of couples do so. This is probably for a number of reasons, but it does seem that perhaps people want that bit of financial independence still.

When most couples split up due to money problems, it does seem that perhaps it might be better to have a joint account, with everything out in the open and therefore no reason to lose trust in each other and spending habits.

However, it is also understandable that each person wants some independence and also that they should be able to trust each other.

Another question to address is when to get a joint account. Many couples do not get married these days, which is when you would tend to collaborate your accounts. Perhaps when you live together or when you decide to make a life long commitment . This is a bigger decision but if you cannot make it easily then maybe you should be questioning your future together.

Although when we first date, talking about attitudes towards money may seem rather irrelevant, if you do want to make the relationship more long term, then perhaps it is something worth talking about early on. If you do not see eye to eye on spending then perhaps it is a risk getting together as it could easily be the thing which will break things down in the end.

It may sound pessimistic, but it could help you ensure you are moving forward in a relationship that will work for both of you.

Why do Gypsy Dating Rituals Worry Us?

The Channel 4 program ‘My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding’ has brought to the public eye many of the gypsy traditions. The one that has caused teh most controversy is the dating ritual called ‘grabbing’. This where a boy get a girls and almost pins her down in order to ask her out. She in turn has to resist his advances.

This has led to many people saying that it si sexist and should not be done. What many people do not seem to think about is that many of our common habits may seem very odd to them.

Although this ritual looks quite brutal and there is a male dominance in society, there is no sex before marriage. In society these days there is a lot of pressure on youngsters to have sex early on in tehir relationship and there is something to be said for waiting until marriage in that it will prevent the unwanted birth of children out of wedlock. Divorce is also very much frowned upon and hardly ever happens and there is a lot of respect for elders and you woudl not dream of talking back to them.

It is worth people staying open minded when it comes to different cultures and dating. It may be that we can learn something from the way that they do things, rather than just criticising it because it is different to what we are used to.

It is not good to be stuck in an unhappy relationship but if all of us were forced to think hard before going in to marriage and to work hard at the relationship once making the commitment, there may be a lot more stable relationships.

Soldier Dating Scam Warnings

Women have been warned about a recent dating scam involving men who are claiming to be soldiers working abroad.

Several women in the Kidderminster area had reported to the police that they had been conned by a dating scam. The men had befriended the women by emailing them for some months and then asked them for money, perhaps for a flight home, medical supplies or something like that. Some women sent money and then later realised that it was a scam. others were lucky enough to realise that it seemed suspicious before sending any money.

Sadly there are quite a few of the schemes happening on line, working in slightly different ways but all out to get the money from vulnerable people using false information. It should not put people off on line dating but it should make them more cautious about the sites they use, the information they diverge and sending money to strangers.

The case was monitored by West Mercia police who sent out a warning to people using on line dating sites. They explained that it is important to never send money to anyone, however genuine they sound and also to only use reputable dating sites.  Knowing if a site is reputable could be difficult but sites that advertise on the television or in the media are a good place to start or perhaps ones that your friends and family have used in the past. If you have any suspicions about a site then do not use it and find another. They are certainly plenty to choose from.

Timothy King: an affair between married teacher and pupil ends in jail

We often hear on these pages the dangers of temptation – whether it is in the workplace or through the internet. Yet there can be few places more full of unspoken temptations than a school.

You don’t need to see a Britney Spears video to know that the combination of authority figures and youngsters just discovering their sexuality is a combustible one in certain circumstances.

Timothy King fell victim to exactly that temptation. A teacher of 10 years standing with what was described as a ‘glittering’ career behind him, his downfall came when he accepted a friend request from one of his pupils on Facebook.

That seemingly innocuous act broke down the fragile formal barrier of trust that exists between teachers and their pupils. Before long, the flirting (as we have seen before) had got out of hand, taken a sexual turn, and led to illicit encounters.

King told the girl his marriage was “under strain” and soon the girl believed that she and her teacher were sharing a meaningful relationship. After some months, the inevitable happened and the girl fell pregnant.

King dropped her off at an adoption clinic but then left her to face the ordeal alone – and even walk back to her house by herself.

Now, in jail for 3 years, marriage presumably in tatters and on the sex offenders’ register for life, King has learnt – like many before him that having an affair is not a matter to be taken lightly.

She went on to explain that he is very cuddly with everyone and so she was no different to anyone else. However, when questioned about the kiss, she declined to answer, which raised suspicions. She even went on to admit that if there was something going on between them then she would not be able to admit it publically. This has sparked off rumours that they are in fact, going out with each other. › Continue reading
