Online Dating
Kerry Katona Uses Online Dating
A close friend of Kerry Katona has reported that she has turned to on line dating because she has been feeling so lonely lately. The ex Atomic Kitten singer, has just had her divorce finalised and has four children to bring up on a very low income. Her friend told Fallen Scoop that she is interested in finding a man who can support himself because she does not want to attract a fame hungry man and for this reason she has also hidden her identity on the website.
She has put a photograph on the website but she has posed in a black short wig so she looks very different and she has a screen name of Sexy Kaz. She was badly hurt by her ex-husband Mark Croft who sold intimate photos of her to the tabloids and she was also married to BryanMcFadden of Westlife. She has also been linked to Adam Waldron a builder as well as Scott Gibson a Kick boxer.
Other stars have also been reported to have used on line dating to find a partner. Like everyone, they have busy lives and find it difficult to have the time to go out and meet people. They also find that the fact they can remain anonymous until they get to know someone better very useful. It means that they can avoid people who just want to be with them because they are famous and to have a more normal relationship where they will be able to avoid worrying about whether someone is just interested in them because they are a celebrity.
Dating Apps More Popular Than Websites
Flurry is an app analytics company and have recently found that dating apps are generating more use than dating websites. This is a big leap in popularity when just last year the websites were seeing more than double the use of apps. In June this year the mobile dating apps were used for 8.4 minutes every day when websites were 8.3 minutes. The year before apps were used 3.7 minutes and dating sites 8.4 minutes.
This result shows that website use has not really changed, but app use has drastically changed. Flurry also found that the way apps were used has also changed with last year them being used twice a day for two minutes at a time and now they are being used 5 times a day but for less time.
They found that 17% of app users used dating products whereas 13% of internet users go to dating websites. They also found that the app use is growing rapidly, in fact faster than any other app use, meaning that it is a huge growth category in this sector.
The reason given for this is that app use is more useful for dating as it can be done at any time due to the mobile nature of the mobile phone. It means that people can more easily communicate and meet up, than they can when they are using the internet. It may be that it is easier to get in touch or that the dating apps allow people to put in more local information. Whatever the reason, it is obvious that this is an area that should be taken advantage of.
Dating Agency Not Negligent
A dating agency based in Donegal was acquitted after a woman took them to court. She tried to claim 6,000 Euros in damages because she said that four of the men she had met through the agency had treated her inappropriately. She said that they had not been properly vetted.
However, courts did not feel that her claims that the men had groped, battered and assaulted her were the responsibility of the dating agency. of the dating agency and when they found out what the men had actually done, they felt that it was not totally inappropriate.
The women had paid 600 Euros to be set up on twelve dates, but after four unsatisfactory ones, decided that she was not happy with the service provided. The first man she dated asked her to move in with him on the first date, the second was unmannerly, the third was desperate and the fourth kissed her inappropriately due to a misunderstanding.
The court felt that both parties were honest but that the men had not acted in an abusive manner. The owner of the dating company, Mary Mitchell, explained the process for vetting prospective dates and the court were satisfied that she had fulfilled her obligations. They therefore ruled in her favour.
This is an interesting court case a sit will set precedence for future ones. It means that a dating agency should not be liable for making the perfect match for people and really it is impossible for them to do so and so this is fair. Of course, if they didn’t have a good vetting service or matched extremely inappropriately then people would have a case against them, but it seems in this specific case this did not happen.
Woman Conned in Online Dating Scam
A woman from Swindon has been conned out of £3,000 during an on line dating scam. The Wiltshire police spokesman explained that she was in contact with a man who she believed was an American serviceman. She was having an on line romance with him.
He then asked her for £3,000 stating that it would help him to pay for leave that he wanted to take. However, the woman later discovered that the money had been transferred in to a bank in West Africa.
The police have issued a warning to people who are asked for cash on line. They have stated that they should be very careful as they have not met the person and do not know whether they are genuine or not.
It is shame that this sort of thing happens so often. It is so easy to let the heart rule the head and many people feel that they have no other chance of finding romance and are flattered when someone shows interest in them. It is a good idea to remain very opened minded and maybe make contact with a selection of people so that you do not feel reliant on a relationship with one person.
Despite all the warnings, many people seem to just get carried away on line and seem happy to send money. Imagine if it was someone you knew asking for the money, it seems that many of us woudl not want to lend it but when it is a stranger they are. It does seem odd but maybe these conmen just have very good persuasive skills. Think hard if you are ever in this situation as you are likely to never see your money again.
Elderly Use Internet Dating Sites
Age UK has launched a campaign to try to get the elderly more connected, using computers. It has urged people to help older people that they know to learn how to use a computer because they feel it helps to stop them getting lonely and can help them keep in better touch with their family and friends.
Many older people find the television is the most company that they have and by opening them up to more opportunities for entertainment they will be able to communicate more with other people, whether that means their family and friends or strangers. Being less mobile may mean that they have less opportunity to meet other people and to see their family, who may live far away.
One of the people interviewed by the BBC said that she used the Internet to keep in touch with her friends and had even used Internet dating, at the age of 64. It is good to see that the older generation are using the Internet to find companions in the same way that younger people do and it is great that it can help them to feel less lonely and may even lead to a long term relationship. It may just be a friendship, but some elderly people do marry after they have lost their husbands or wives and so it is great to think that there is a place for them to meet new friends and partners and also a way that they can stop themselves getting so lonely.
Dating Agency Fees Entered in Inflation Basket
When calculating inflation, the Office for National Statistics, many items are included in a possible shopping basket. Things like food, clothes and gadgets go in to what they consider to be a typical shopping basket. These things are updated every year and this year the cost of dating agencies have been included.
The average baskets are used to calculate the monthly inflation figures and are reviewed every year to make sure that they are reflecting typical spending habits. Once an item has over a certain amount of money spent on it, in total by the population, then it is considered to be worthy of going in the basket. Many new entries include pre-cooked joints, smart phones and large televisions as well as on line dating fees.
The fact that monthly dating agency fees have been included, just shows what a large proportion of the UK are using this service. It is something which has grown over the years and there are many success stories out there, which have really helped them to grow. There is some negative press as well, but this only seems to add to the popularity of websites, bringing them in to the public eye and most people thinking that they would not be conned by bogus people just after money, in the way that some people have been. Also with busy lives, many people do not have time to search around for a date and so this con be a more convenient way of doing so.
Scottish Dating Company Grows
Cupid, is a Scottish on line dating agency. It has just announced that it has made a 202% increase in revenue in 2010. Its pretax profits rose from just £983,000 in 2009 to £4.16m in 2010. This is a massive leap and couple be to do with their acquisition of certain domain names.
The company own a selection of dating websites and also host dating sites for other companies. The companies has a selection of different names, appealing to different niches in the on line dating market. It has 13 million customer profiles on it altogether.
This is an interesting result, showing how on line dating is a growing industry. This company may of course, not be typical of all dating companies but the fact that it has shown success at least shows that someone is making money in this area.
With the economy not good at the moment, it is difficult to predict what sorts of industries will do well. Anything that is not a necessity would be expecting to be worse off due to people not spending so much money, but maybe dating is considered to be essential. The cost of an on line dating agency can also be relatively cheap and perhaps this is also part of the appeal. Finding someone to spend our life with is something which many of us rate as very important and therefore would be worth spending some money on. However, many people have cut out the really expensive luxuries such as holidays and it could be that the smaller luxuries may have to go as well. Only time will tell whether the on line dating industry will suffer or not.
